2012 Mazda CX-5 at the Frankfurt Motor Show

The 2012 Mazda CX-5 has finally made its public debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. The 2012 Mazda CX-5 will be introduced to global markets starting early 2012. The engine lineup in Europe will include a SKYACTIV-G 2.0 gasoline engine and SKYACTIV-D 2.2 diesel engine.

Specifically, we focused on providing pleasure through the CX-5′s appearance, ist precise handling, its insightful functionality, and its long-term appeal.
At this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, Mazda has revealed the production version of its new CX-5 compact crossover. Boxier than Mazda’s current line of crossover utilities, the CX-5 features a rather prominent grille, one that faintly recalls the old 808 and RX-3 rotary sedan and coupe from the mid-1970s. The CX-5 is the first Mazda to feature the company’s new generation ‘SKYACTIV’ engines, a 2.0-liter gas unit rated at 165 metric horsepower (PS) and (in Europe at least) a 2.2-liter diesel engines that sports a two-stage turbocharger, enabling 150 and 175 PS outputs. Front or all-wheel drive configurations are also available.

Stop/Start technology is also employed on Euro spec models to further aid emissions and fuel economy reduction.

More details of the 2012 Mazda CX-5 compact crossover have been revealed overnight at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The SkyActiv-D 2.2-litre diesel engine is a state-of-the-art Euro 6-compliant unit. The Australian tune of the engine – expected to be the higher output 129kW/420Nm unit – will use slightly more fuel than the quoted 110kW/380Nm tune. At that rate, the CX-5 should eclipse all current diesel-powered SUV competitors, including the Hyundai ix35/Kia Sportage (7.5 litres/100km), Mitsubishi ASX (5.9 litres/100km) and the Peugeot 3008 (5.1 litres/100km). The SkyActiv-G 2.0-litre engine also promises to be close to the top of its class from a fuel economy perspective.
