2011 Suzuki Swift Reviews
The 2011 Suzuki Swift is 3.85 m long, 1.69 m wide and 1.51 m in height and under the hood of a gasoline engine of 1.2 liter dual VVT (variable intake valve timing and exhaust) delivers 94PS 6,000 rpm and 118 Nm of torque at 4,800 rpm.
The all-new Suzuki Swift is positioned as Suzuki’s latest world strategic model and makes strong developments in styling, impact safety, driving performance, handling, improved fuel consumption and significantly lower emissions.
This latest body design has also helped improve impact safety for pedestrians as well as occupants.
For the powertrain; a new 1.2-litre petrol engine incorporating Dual VVT (Variable intake and exhaust valve timing) is utilised which produces 94PS at 6,000rpm, slightly more than the outgoing 1.3-litre unit. Fuel consumption on the combined cycle is now 56.5mpg for the manual transmission model, an improvement of 7.8mpg over the previous 1.3-litre unit.
An optional automatic transmission will be available for the petrol engine from launch.
The new Suzuki Swift is a mainstay of Suzuki Australia's operations. The company has sold 65,000 of the existing model cars and is Suzuki Australia general manager Tony Devers says new model, with the catchline More Swift, will account for a 10 per cent sales boost.
The base-model GA (there's no model-specific badging on any Swift model, so pick them by look) comes with steel 15-inch rims, plain door handles and side mirrors, power windows and mirrors, a four-speaker sound system with USB and iPod connectivity, a five-speed manual transmission and drum rear brakes. The top-spec GLX costs $18,990 and adds all-round disc brakes, 16-inch alloys, Bluetooth connectivity, a steering wheel that adjust for reach and height, keyless entry and start/stop button and front fog lamps.
All cars now have the electronic throttle control previously reserved for the sporty Swift S model. Cruise control isn't a option, yet.
The result is a glass profile that progressively narrows from the front windows the rear, a bigger front grille, front and rear lights that now sweep around the top side edges of the car and a much smarter interior.
The Suzuki Swift is a safe bet. There are seven airbags (the driver picks up a knee bag in addition to the dual front, side and curtain units), ABS brakes with brake assist and brakeforce distribution, stability control and front seatbelts with pretensioners and force limiters. Hairpin turns with short straights are made for cars like the Suzuki Swift.
