2011 Volkswagen Eos Reviews

Beyond the talented top, the Eos provides an enjoyable drive thanks in part to the standard turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 engine. The Mini Cooper?

The 2011 Volkswagen Eos is a front-wheel-drive, two-door hardtop convertible with seating for four. The Lux model adds daytime running lights, power-folding heated outside mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming rearview and driver's outside mirrors, burled walnut cabin accents, leather upholstery, power passenger seat, power front seat lumbar adjustments and an easy-entry function for rear passengers.

Options for the Comfort are few and include ground effects (lower body skirting), a rear lip spoiler and 18-inch wheels. All 2011 Volkswagen Eos models are powered by the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, which makes 200 hp and 207 pound-feet of torque. Lux models are available with the dual-clutch automated manual only.

The fuel economy ratings for the 2011vw Eos with the manual are 21 mpg city/31 mpg highway and 25 mpg combined.
Standard on all Eos models are antilock disc brakes, stability control and front seat side airbags.

In Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash testing, the 2011 VW Eos earned the top rating of "Good" for both frontal-offset and side-impact tests.
The 2011 Volkswagen Eos is designed for those who want a relaxed touring convertible. Both transmissions are nicely executed, but we suspect the typical Eos buyer will be happier with the automated manual. As expected, the retractable hardtop provides coupe like isolation when the weather prevents top-down motoring.

The 2011 Volkswagen Eos ranks 16 out of 21 Upscale Midsize Cars. The 2011 Eos is Volkswagen’s inexpensive alternative to the BMW 3-series convertible or the Lexus IS convertible. It’s possible that you’ve never heard of the Eos, Volkswagen’s midsize convertible. Ford Mustang? Mini Cooper? The 2011 Volkswagen Eos isn’t cheap; the base model starts at $32,940. If you can afford a more expensive car, try convertibles like the BMW 3-Series and the Lexus IS. The BMW 1-Series convertible also falls in this category, but it’s smaller and less expensive. The base price is $34,500.

It’s not a luxury convertible like the Eos, but its standard V6 engine pumps out 300 horsepower. The Mustang Convertible won’t get more than 19/30 mpg city/highway. Another sporty but small option is the Mini Cooper Convertible.
VW has solved that problem for the 2011 model year by updating the convertible to mimic the rest of the automaker's lineup.

The Eos loses its flashy chrome grille and bumper in favor of a newly designed geometric three-bar grille. A new convenience allows owners to operate the convertible top with the key fob. Newly optional "cool leather" seating surfaces are designed to reflect heat and improve comfort on hot days.
