2011 Chevy Aveo

With the 2011 Chevy Aveo, General Motors is taking its small-car destiny in its own hands, bringing its Honda Fit fighter home to America--in terms of design and production.
The concept Aveo RS on display in Detroit wears some unlikely performance cues--it's a concept, after all--but underneath the flares and add-ons, there's a handsome new shape for the Chevy Aveo . At the back, the Aveo "concept" wears a roof-mounted wing and a center-mounted exhaust port. Big 19-inch wheels hide blue-painted brake calipers.

Affordability is the 2011 Chevrolet Aveo's main selling point. Even within the Aveo's price range, reviewers prefer the 2011 Nissan Versa (Base MSRP: $9,990 to $17,190). The Chevy Aveo is available in both sedan and hatchback form (the latter as the Aveo5).

The Environmental Protection Agency rates the Chevy Aveo economy sedan and hatchback at 27 mpg city/35 mpg highway when equipped with the five-speed manual and at 25 mpg city/34 mpg highway when equipped with the four-speed automatic. The Chevy Aveo has mediocre crash-test results. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not tested the Chevy Aveo under its new testing guidelines for 2011 models.
The cheapest 2011 Chevrolet Aveo sedan starts at $11,965 while the Aveo5 hatchback starts at a similar $12,115.

For 2011, the Chevy Aveo gets a standard cabin air filter and a free six months of OnStar's Directions and Connections plan.
On paper, the 2011 Chevy Aveo looks as if it could be a front runner in the subcompact economy car segment. High fuel economy? Respectable handling.
The 2011 Chevy Aveo is available as either a sedan or a four-door hatchback, dubbed the Aveo5. The Aveo5 hatchback in 2LT form also comes with a rear spoiler.
The official EPA mileage estimates for the Aveo are respectable for this class, with a manual-equipped example achieving 27 mpg city/35 mpg highway and 30 mpg combined. An Aveo with the automatic transmission drops to 25/34/28 mpg.

Front-seat side airbags are standard on all trim levels, but side curtain airbags (a feature that is increasingly common on subcompacts) aren't available. Stability control isn't offered.
In government crash tests, the sedan earned a top five-star rating for the driver and four stars for the passenger in frontal impacts. Both the sedan and Aveo5 hatchback feature a 60/40 split-folding rear seat that allows for the transport of longer items.
